The Canadian Business Council of Dubai and the Northern Emirates (CBC) and Queen's School of Business invite you to attend a networking evening featuring guest speaker Dr. Bill Blake.
Speaker Synopsis: Dr. Blake will discuss the characteristics of an effective leader, highlighting the differences we are finding between what drives us as leaders and what we are looking for in those who lead us. The gap is significant and it forces leaders to think about the extent to which their behaviours/decisions are driven by satisfying their own needs, or the needs of others.

Dr. Bill Blake Associate Dean, MBA Programs Professor of Organizational Behaviour Queen's School of Business Queen’s University Kingston, Ontario, Canada
Dr. Bill Blake joined Queen's School of Business in 2002 as a Professor of Organizational Behaviour and Director, Executive Development. In 2003, he was appointed Associate Dean, MBA Programs. A native of Kingston and a graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada, Dr. Blake spent six years in a variety of leadership positions in the Canadian Navy prior to entering the University of Western Ontario where he completed an MBA and a PhD in business. Dr. Blake joined the Faculty of Business Administration at Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1986. His research and teaching have focused on the relationship between cultural adaptability and international effectiveness and he has been actively involved in consulting and executive development, with a particular focus on human resources management in the banking sector.
He has worked with managers and senior executives from the banking industry across Canada, Mexico, and Brazil. He has also taught on executive education leadership programs at Queen's University, UBC, and Memorial and has delivered programs in cross-cultural management at the Stockholm School in Sweden. At Memorial, Dr. Blake served as Director of the Centre for Management Development and, from 1993 to 2002, as Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration.
He has consulted and/or developed training programs for a variety of organizations including: A.T. Kearney, the CBC, Alliant, the Iron Ore Company of Canada, Newfoundland Power, and Fisheries Products International. Dr. Blake has served on the board of directors of Fisheries Products International, Homestead Land Holdings Ltd., Ireland Business Partnerships, the Genesis Group, and the CA Educational Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador. He has also served on the Steering Committee for the Network of International Business Schools (NIBS) and the International Advisory Council of AACSB International. From 2000 to 2002, he was Chair of the Canadian Federation of Business School Deans.
