Canadian Business Council Dubai and the Northern Emirates Privacy Policy

The Canadian Business Council of Dubai and the Northern Emirates’ (“CBC”) Privacy Policy (“Policy”) sets out the details of how the CBC uses and protects the information that you provide to us. Please read the below carefully. By visiting www.cbc-dubai.com or sharing your information with the CBC, you are consenting to the practices outlined in this Policy.

Please note that this Policy may be modified or supplemented at any time by the CBC, in particular to comply with any legal, regulatory, jurisprudential or technological developments. This Policy will be posted on the website, with the date of the latest update posted at the bottom of the Policy. It is suggested that you regularly consult this Policy to become aware of any changes.

Collection of Personal Information

There are certain circumstances where the CBC may be required to ask for certain personal information such as your name, email address, telephone number, company and function, passport, trade license of other documents (“Personal Information”) in order to process a CBC membership application, offer other CBC services and supports, advise you of upcoming events and for similar purposes. We respect your privacy and protect the data that we collect and process about people who visit our website as well as our members, business contacts, partners and employees.

By providing your Personal Information, you expressly agree that it will be processed and used by the CBC to offer members the full benefits of membership and fulfill its mandate.

As a general principle, your decision to provide Personal Information is entirely voluntary; and there are no detrimental effects for you if you choose not to consent or provide personal data. However, there are circumstances in which CBC cannot act without receiving certain personal data, such as processing CBC membership, registration for CBC events or sending CBC updates and offers. In these cases, CBC will unfortunately be unable to provide you with these services without the relevant Personal Information.

If you provide Personal Information to the CBC about someone else (such as one of your company’s directors or employees or someone else with whom you have business dealings), the CBC will assume that you have taken the necessary steps to ensure that you are entitled to disclose that personal information to the CBC and that, without taking any further steps, we may collect, use and disclose that Personal Information as described in this Privacy Policy.

Uses of Personal Information

The CBC may use your Personal Information in order to provide CBC’s mandated services or supports. These may include, but are not limited to, processing CBC memberships, managing and administering event registrations or activities organized by the CBC or one of its event partners, showcasing CBC members in our printed and online directories, processing and responding to inquiries, managing or administering CBC mailers and newsletter distribution, carrying out membership obligations and providing information and services requested by members.

The CBC may take pictures of you as an attendee or speaker at a seminar or other event, and publish these pictures on the CBC website, mailers, newsletters or social media. Should you not wish to have your picture posted, please send an email to info@cbc-dubai.com.

If the CBC would like to use Personal Information for anything other than providing CBC membership or CBC services and supports, such uses will only be performed when your prior permission has been requested and you have consented to these uses.

Recipients and Sharing of Personal Information

Only the CBC is the recipient of your Personal Information. This information, whether in individual or aggregated form, is not transmitted to third parties, other than in the course of our liaison role with the Consulate General of Canada to the UAE in Dubai and the Embassy of Canada in the UAE or to the third party service providers and subcontractors with which the CBC works or as required by law. Neither the CBC, nor any of its subcontractors, sell the Personal Information of members and users of this website.

The CBC may share your Personal Information with any other CBC member or when required for obtaining event permits or registrations or other approvals with relevant authorities.

The CBC may also have a duty to disclose or share your Personal Information in order to comply with any legal obligation, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of the CBC, our members, business partners or others. This includes exchanging information with governmental authorities or, potentially, other companies and organisations for the purposes of fraud protection and credit risk reduction.

Rights of Access, Communication and Rectification

You have the right to view your Personal Information and request a copy of their Personal Information. In addition, you may ask the CBC not to process your Personal Information for marketing purposes and can opt out of receiving electronic communications from the CBC.

In addition, you are also able to request the rectification, updating, locking or deletion of data concerning you that may be inaccurate, erroneous, incomplete or obsolete.

The CBC agrees to respond to your request for access, rectification or opposition or any other request for additional information within a reasonable period of time from receipt of your request.

Security

All Personal Data provided to us is secured on our website via our service providers who may be located outside of the UAE. By submitting your Personal Information, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing. We will take reasonable steps to ensure that Personal Information is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
