About the Speakers:
Carissa Campeotto is a social entrepreneur and co-founder of Trendi, a startup that aims to reduce food waste by connecting restaurants and cafes with customers through a mobile app. Carissa has a background in hospitality and food service, with over 15 years of experience working in the industry. She has a passion for sustainability and a commitment to making a positive impact on the world.
Carissa holds a Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. She has also completed additional training in sustainability and entrepreneurship. Prior to starting Trendi, Carissa worked as a food and beverage manager for several hotels and restaurants, where she became increasingly concerned about the amount of food waste generated by the industry.
Through Trendi, Carissa and her co-founder are working to address this issue by providing a platform for restaurants and cafes to sell excess food at a discount, rather than throwing it away. This not only helps to reduce food waste, but also provides affordable meals for customers and additional revenue for businesses.
Ghita Bahmad is an accomplished entrepreneur and business leader, currently serving as the Founder and CEO of Food Engineering, a company dedicated to providing innovative solutions to the food industry. With a background in engineering, Ghita has extensive experience in food processing, packaging, and quality control. She has also worked in various roles in the food industry, including as a food safety consultant, research engineer, and technical director.
Every morning, I wake up with an unwavering determination to lead a revolution in the food industry, creating a world where access to healthy and nutritious food is available to all. My ultimate goal is to leverage the latest cutting-edge technologies in Food Engineering to push the boundaries of innovation and sustainability and make healthy food more accessible to people worldwide.
My passion for food is rooted in my Moroccan heritage, where food is more than just a source of nourishment; it is a symbol of gathering, bringing people together, and connecting with one another. This love, combined with my family's engineering background, led me to study Food Engineering at the University of Laval in Canada. It is a career path that perfectly blends my two passions, science, and connecting with human beings.
As the Dubai Expo 2020 tagline says, "Connecting minds, creating the future," I am committed to expanding business relations and sharing knowledge between Canada and the MENA region. With over a decade of experience in the North American fruit juice and beverage manufacturing industry, I have gained extensive knowledge and understanding of various aspects of food and manufacturing processes.
My mission is to promote health and the environment, especially among younger generations, through education about different manufacturing techniques and raising awareness about Agricultural Technology (Agri-tech) and packaging reduction. I am determined to make this technology accessible to all and dream of a world where urban agriculture enables everyone to access fresh and healthy products.
Furthermore, I aim to act as a key resource in improving food security and manufacturing methods while facilitating the exchange of know-how between Canada, Arab countries, and the food industry. By forging these connections, I am confident that we can achieve our shared goal of creating a more sustainable and equitable future.
