The Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) is a professional working group, based in the United Arab Emirates. EEG was established in 1991 with the aim of creating a cross-sector platform to drive environmental awareness and responsible behaviour. It successfully rallies members from the community, academic institutions and public and private sector organisations and engages them in meaningful sustainability activities. The key focus areas within EEG are environment and sustainable development related education and awareness, waste management and recycling, planting and other green initiatives,
research and publications, and public campaigns. Most of EEG’s ongoing programmes have been running successfully for decades and are popular vehicles of cross-sector participation. EEG is known internationally as a leading environmental organisation in West Asia, and is accredited to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification – (UNCCD), the International Union for Conservation of Nature – (IUCN). EEG is also a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact.

EEG has developed a set of annual programmes for the student and youth community including workshops and competitions. Additionally EEG offers 6 recycling programmes for solid domestic waste, which are open to individuals and institutions alike to participate. EEG’s clean up campaigns and waste drives are conducted annually across the seven Emirates and along with tree planting as a reward for waste collection; these programmes are immensely popular among all sections of the society. EEG conducts panel discussion sessions on a diverse range of relevant topics and issues for the community and releases as free monthly e-newsletter and an Annual Report all of which helps to disseminate information, data and news related to environment and sustainability.

EEG’s corporate focused programmes and activities provide opportunities to hundreds of organisations across the Arab world to build capacity for responsible business practices and strengthen their social license to operate. EEG actively promotes the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, the world’s fastest growing Corporate Responsibility initiative, among businesses in the Gulf Region. It has
successfully collaborated with the Arabia CSR Network in the latter’s corporate trainings, forums and award programmes. EEG is certified to ISO 14001 and actively pursues environmental management in all its programmes and activities.
